RESEARCH ON JOB SATISFACTION AMONG ASSISTANT PHARMACIST

Hi everyone,

Currently I'm very busy conducting a research on our profession with the title :

" A STUDY ON JOB SATISFACTION AMONG GOVERNMENT ASSISTANT PHARMACIST WORKING AT INSTITUTIONS UNDER MINISTRY OF HEALTH MALAYSIA "

Job satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable emotional state resulting from the appraisal of one’s job;an affective reaction to one’s job; and an attitude towards one’s job.Weiss (2002) has argued that job satisfaction is an attitude but points out that researchers should clearly distinguish the objects of cognitive evaluation which are affect (emotion), beliefs and behaviours. This definition suggests that we form attitudes towards our jobs by taking into account our feelings, our beliefs, and our behaviors.

One of the biggest preludes to the study of job satisfaction was the Hawthorne studies. These studies (1924-1933), primarily credited to Elton Mayo of the Harvard Business School, sought to find the effects of various conditions (most notably illumination) on workers’ productivity. These studies ultimately showed that novel changes in work conditions temporarily increase productivity (called the Hawthorne Effect). It was later found that this increase resulted, not from the new conditions, but from the knowledge of being observed. This finding provided strong evidence that people work for purposes other than pay, which paved the way for researchers to investigate other factors in job satisfaction
.

Teamwork was believed to be an important factor in job satisfaction. Whetten & Cameron (2007) pointed that teamwork has been found dramatically affect the organizational performance. Effective teams have interdependent members, like geese, the productivity efficiency of an entire unit is determine by the coordinated, interactive effort of all its members. According to Whetten et.al, in an effective teams, members care for and nuture one another. No member is devalued or unappreciated. All are treated as an integral part of a team. Whetten also pointed out that effective leaders have the respect and commitment of the team members. That is they develop credibility (Kouzes & Posner, 1987). Establishing credibility and the capacity to influence team members are the first key challenges faced by leaders of the teams. Giving direction, articulating goals, or trying to motivate team members are all wasted effort if they have not established credibility and respect.

My research will be focusing on current developments in pharmacy setting in one of the hospital. The purpose of study is to findout the level of satisfaction, teamwork in the department and the morale of Assistant Pharmacist relates to current developments at pharmacy outpatient department and reveal all the problem that cause the stress and recommendation to employer how to overcome the problem findings.
The study may be beneficial both for the department and the employees. Department can benefit by knowing the employees level of satisfaction. And the employees got the chance to convey their dissatisfaction through this research for the benefits of the Pharmacy Department and Health Ministry Organization in general.

Design : cross sectional descriptive
Respondent : Assistant Pharmacist from selected institution(not disclosed yet)

See you again all friends.

firstly i would like to congratulate u for the good result. Dont worry. Your future is very bright with that result.
About your question on pharmacy, it is indeed a tough course but it is very demanding job. Once you finish the studies you will be surely got a job. JPA has a walking interview specially for critical post that is Doctor, Pharmacist and Dentist.
On studying at Indonesia, i feel if it is a recognised by JPA, then its ok. Dont worry, many now studying there. Why u didnt try medicine?
Anyway, best of luck to you.
God bless you. If u need further advice, call me at 012-5172500

thnx so much sir..

i do get a lil' bit confused on whether to take pharmacy or medicine..many people told me that a pharmacist is most likely known as a 'failing doctor'..and i wanna prove them wrong..

i believe that a doctor can't work without a pharmacist..they don't know much about medicine compare to pharmacist.. a pharmacist i believe is the one responsible to produce and control the qualities of various types of medicine(correct me if i'm wrong), and the doctor use these medicine to treat their patient..

so, i think that, a pharmacist also contribute a lot to the society.. but the problem is,not many people realise about this fact.. most of people actually think that they can only refer to doctor if they have any health problems..

and i take it as a chellenge..

Dear syafiqah,
It seems u know some knowledge bout this profession. Dats good. It shows u r prepared b4 going into something. Anyway my advice to u : if u interested in medical line and have good result, better try Medicine. Nowdays doctors having very2 good future, career and respect compare to other profession. If u in the industry u'll knw that. Most of the decision made by doctor even for Pharmacist in higher level decision making. They are the one control everything. We not like in USA or India where the pharmacist playing more roles and have their own specialist career. They also have the dispensing rights but not in Msia. Doctors controlling everything. Sometimes if u in high position, u might get stress when some of ur request not entertaint. This wont be realise by lower category group. I mix with higher level management group ppl too, n was inform bout this. But for a ordinary Phartmacist, u wont feel dat. Infact Pharmacist also getting good pay and career opportunity in Msia. They also receive critical allowance as the doctor. Its up to you. As what u said bout the knowledge, of course Pharmacist know better bout the medicine as they study 4 yrs on this field.
Ok, all the best to u. U can email too if u want. pfganesh@gmail.com
Bye

well sir,i do appreciate ur suggestion.. but i cant change my mind right now, there's no turning back right now.. i must keep on moving forward to accomplish my dream in this field..

i've already applied for MARA scholarship and will be having an interview a week from now.. i did choose to take pharmacy.. so, i cant change my decision now, eventhough so many people told me so..

one of de reasons why i choose pharmacy and not medic is because i'm afraid of blood..my family laughed at me when i told them about this.. i did try to conquer my fear, but it didn't work out.. seeing only a picture of a dead body is enough to make me feel sick..juz imagine how am i going to treat people with broken arms, broken legs and etc.. i know i sound childish, but i don't think mlysia needs a doctor like me..

however,i still want to get involved in sciences field and i still want to be the a person who works to help people in maintaining their good health and treat their health problems.. so i think, being a pharmacist is the best choice..

In that case than its ok. This what a student shud do, make a decision and know where to go.
Since you choose and love this career, you can achieve and succeed well in ths profession. I do agree if you felt uneasy on seing 'blood' and dead body, then better u choose this profession. Pharmacist is a professional career same like Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer. You shud be proud of it.

Did you know that Coca Cola was invented by a pharmacist, Dr.John Pemberton. The soft drink was first sold to the public at the soda fountain in Jacob's Pharmacy in Atlanta on May 8, 1886.

So, all the best to you and congrats on the chosen career. God bless you.
